''Ichthyapus insularis'' is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).〔(''Ichthyapus insularis'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by John E. McCosker in 2004.〔McCosker, J. E., 2004 (23 Apr.) (27619 ) ''A new species of finless snake eel (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae) from Ascension Island, with comments on Ichthyapus acutirostris.'' Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences v. 55 (no. 7): 169-173.〕 It is a marine, tropical eel which is known only from Ascension Island, in the southeastern Atlantic Ocean. It is known to dwell at a depth range of , and lives among rocks and sand. Males can reach a total length of .〔 The species epithet "''insularis''", meaning "island" in Latin, refers to Ascension Island, to which ''I. insularis'' seems to be endemic.〔 ==References==
